While on routine patrol DSO Graham Hale and Roy Coatman were stopped by a member of the public who was concerned about a person frantically waving his arms and running up and down the cliff near Carn Du, Lamorna.

The two went to investigate, found the man and after questioning it turned out that he had been trying to attract the attention of his family on the other side of Lamorna Valley.

After being informed that the way he was waving his arms is a recognized International signal of distress he left in an embarressed state.
