The hut came to be known locally as 'the Black Hut' and after decommissioning at the end of the war was used as a staff residence by the Sennen Cove Hotel.

Throughout the 1914-18 war, local men were enrolled as Coastwatchers, their main duty being to look out for enemy U-Boats. Two lookout posts were constructed of rough granite for their use, one at Escalls Cairn, the other on a cairn near Pordennick Point, Lands End, the latter became thereafter known as Watchouse Cairn.

Local Coastwatchers were Billy George, Pen's Billy Pender, Abbey's Jack George, Capt. Henry Penrose, Bill Trenary, Jim Penrose and William Wallace.

Modern Times.

Transport of equipment became motorized in the late 1930's with the lorry used for this purpose being supplied by Mr. Jim Nicholas. The Rocket Cart, being of no further use, was removed.
